Robotic arms use pneumatic power to perform movements. Pneumatics is a branch of engineering that deals with the use of compressed air or gas to generate mechanical motion. Pneumatic power is used for high speed robots but they are less precise and noisy.
Hydraulic power is commonly used in robotic arms to provide the necessary control for various applications. Hydraulic systems utilize fluid, typically oil, to transmit power to create mechanical motion. Often this type of power is used for very large capacity robots, this requires a lot of power and can be noisy.
